Job Description:

Role Summary

We are seeking an experienced Network Operations Engineer to support and enhance large-scale, mission-critical network infrastructure in a 24/7 GNOC/NOC environment. This role involves hands-on network operations, incident management, automation, leadership, and project execution within a cloud or ISP-scale environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Operations (NOC/GNOC)
  • Execute and validate network changes using established procedures and tools
  • Monitor network health, identify incidents, perform fault isolation, and drive resolution
  • Participate in on-call and rotational shift support for break-fix operations
  • Lead and contribute to incident response, RCA, and post-incident reviews
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and third-party suppliers to resolve escalations
  • Join major incident calls and restore services impacting customers
  • Leadership & Collaboration
  • Mentor, onboard, and train junior engineers
  • Partner with Shift Leads and management to ensure operational excellence
  • Lead runbook audits, updates, and cross-team process alignment
  • Participate in hiring and interview processes
  • Represent GNOC in vendor meetings and governance reviews

Automation & Scripting

  • Develop scripts and automation to streamline operational workflows
  • Collaborate with automation teams to integrate tooling and systems
  • Utilize Python, Ansible, Puppet, SQL, or similar technologies to automate routine tasks

Project Management

  • Lead technical initiatives such as runbook improvements, tooling enhancements, and onboarding programs
  • Drive short- and long-term projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals
  • Communicate progress and outcomes with senior leadership

Technical Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of BGP, OSPF, IS-IS, TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, DNS, DHCP, MPLS, VPN, and SSL
  • Hands-on experience with at least three: Cisco, Juniper, Arista, InfiniBand, firewalls, switches
  • Experience in large ISP or cloud provider environments
  • Exposure to commodity Ethernet hardware (Broadcom/Mellanox)
  • Cisco and/or Juniper certifications preferred

Design & Architecture

  • Participate in network build, upgrade, and lifecycle management projects
  • Contribute to network solution design and review

Soft Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Strong communication, organization, and time-management skills
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and comfortable in fast-paced environments
  • Experience supporting 24/7 operations and rotational shifts
